Presentations are one of the most direct means to show one’s outcomes and ideas to audience. Therefore, I enjoy talking to people, presenting my thoughts, and sharing different ideas. However, I did not enjoy talking to a bunch of crowd until I went to university and received good speech education as well as skills training. Now, even though I still feel anxious before giving presentations, I have realized that moderate tension and anxiety can encourage individuals to think actively and take actions to solve problems successfully and efficiently - just like what I do with presentations.
Today, every speech opportunity is exciting for me - after receiving a chance to give a speech, I start to collect information as soon as possible. I then organize my own ideas carefully, revise my draft repeatedly, make slides creatively to match my expression, and finally practice in front of the mirror over and over again to find the best facial expressions, hand movements, and eye contact to match the speech and audience. Sometimes, I lose heart, because I am afraid that the speech is not satisfactory; sometimes, I get complacent and think that the content I write is quite successful. But anyway, the audience is my goal, so I often ask my friends for advice, then I adjust my content according to their feedback. In this way, I kept practicing and adjusting over and over again - until the day of the speech, it is my chance to shine!
Thus, some of my friends might think that I am an ambitious speaker, because I am always eager to speak and expect the best. Well, maybe they are right, but one thing I need to point is that while I am eager to get the audience's approval, I also expect someone to have a heated debate with me when they do not agree with my points of view.
In a word, presentations are full of charm for me, and I know that being a better presenter will be a critical part of achieving my goal. After all, the first step of a successful self-promotion is to express oneself.
As early as I was in high school, I have developed my own view on leadership, which is to bring order and consistency to the operation of an organization. Like Antony Jenkins, CEO Barclays Bank described from Saïd Business School, Oxford, that “Leadership is a learned skill. Some people are innately good at it, but all can become better.” Apparently, I am not born a leader, but I am a determined learner. In high school, I carefully practiced leadership in a small group of 12 of the students’ radio station - after setting a correct expectation for what excellence looks like, I empowered my team members to actually do the job. And surprisingly, almost everything worked out well. Thus, in this leadership experience, I have learned lessons, gained self-confidence, and accumulated leader experiences.
But the situation went tougher for me when I was working in a technology company this year. This mainly because that the newcomers are always confused by unfamiliar fields. I just could not figure out the market situation in terms of technology, so at the beginning I did not know what to do, and my leadership could not play effectively. Fortunately, after six months of internship, I learned a lot, which is, when you have the ability to take responsibility to become a team leader, you should lead; but when you are not familiar with this industry, you should adapt, learn, understand and summarize, because this would be one of the best ways to become a leader in the future.
Therefore, I understand that to be a leader with style requires a certain vision and courage, and these experiences will be of great help to my future career.
I am a big fan of painting and photography - anything related to ‘graph’ would attract my attention. Through years of study, I have learned that art can affect human’s emotions and subjective feelings, and even the purchase behaviour of customers. Especially when I was studying the course of advertising marketing in university, I noticed that the style of advertising design was changeable, and the changing rules were designed for different social classes, gender as well as age groups. For example, pop style design has a bright colour collision, which is characterized by a strong sense of vision, so it is more suitable to be applied to collage poster art, social network design, and to meet the exaggerated and surreal design needs. In addition, there is now much attention to the cyberpunk style, which often comes with high contrast colours, complicated lines, strong sense of future, and is often used in the design of urban expansion and slums, genetic engineering, virtual reality and artificial intelligence.
As the aesthetic requirements of art are constantly changing and updated, I believe that good style designers are good at capturing the aesthetic changes of the public and innovatively applying them to products to bring attention and benefits to enterprises. Therefore, in order to better realize my designer value, by July 2021, I will continue to observe and understand the trend of painting design, so as to stimulate my creative and innovative inspiration.
